Today the film industry is almost entirely digital, from production to post- production, distribution and exhibition. The archiving and preservation of films, however, to a certain extent still remains in the analogue domain. While digital media offers many benefits for the film industry, it represents challenges for maintaining integrity and long-term storage for these valu- able audio-visual assets. Over time, digital content stored on traditional migration-based storage media, becomes vulnerable and requires migration to more contemporary file formats, to allow future accessibility.

USECASE

We provided film-out services for a national hobby club that had 210,000 microfilm exposures holding historical pedigree information. Using microfilm can be complicated and challenging so our client wanted to keep the information accessible and safe for future use on a different medium. Our film-out service provid- ed efficient and high quality capture, sequencing and printing onto our highly resilient film. All their historical pedigree information is now accessible, catalogued in a searchable database and guaranteed to last well into the future.
