WORKFLOW

Piql offers the simple choice of an on-site or nearby scanning facility. We can support most formats including: • original hardcopies • microfiche and microfilm • already scanned or partially digitised formats (JPG, TIFF, PDF) • files from editorial or publishing software, such as Quarkexpress, Page Maker, Adobe inDesign • XML for metadata. When the newspapers have been scanned, the files are securely transferred to our main digitisation facilities utilising Clip-on-Cloud, a unique digitisation workflow management solution. By using the latest in Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, Piql can also extract the text from unreadable fraktur and non-fraktur fonts. We use metadata validation to help us avoid duplication during indexing and metadata creation. After the digitisation process is finalised, the files are automatically ingested into Piql’s long-term data stor- age solution. This offers seamless end-to-end workflow between two normally separate operational processes. The digitised content is then preserved in the most du- rable long-term data storage solution available. We can also offer an online copy of your data, providing live access.
