Norwegian Armed Forces Museum Case Study

Norwegian Armed Forces Museum As part of a major transformational change in their digitisation and preservation activities, the Norwegian Armed Forces Museum was looking for a solution to meet its requirements for a long-term information storage strategy. Through a partnership with Piql, the Museum chose to take a new to long-term storage using piqlConnect as the heart of their preservation infrastructure.

BACKGROUND

This project included digitising photos, videos, and sound pieces to be able to better understand what historical information was stored in the different locations around the country, as well as making it accessible for the public through different channels. Either by using the common museums platform Digitalt museum, or by sharing information internally to other parts of the organisation or through the media department for external assignments.

The Norwegian Armed Forces Museum is the Norwegian Defence authority responsible for cultural heritage. With seven different departments, it covers a wide range of museum and archival tasks for the Norwegian Defence Force. The documentation of the museum goes back more than 100 years, and in 2017 a large digitisation and preservation project was initiated.
